SGR Biomethane was one of the first Italian companies to upgrade raw biogas to biomethane with membrane technology.

The first pilot project in Italy dates back to 2013 and was financed by regional funds for innovative start-ups. Since 2014, the pilot plant installed at the Colombaro farm has been producing biomethane from anaerobic digestion of pig and silage slurry, using Biomethane SGR membrane separation technology. The plant has been the subject of study, experimentation and data collection that have allowed the subsequent development of the technology on a larger scale. Two innovative research projects, Go Biom and +Gas, financed by the operational programme of the European Regional Development Funds (POR-FESR 2014-2020), used the pilot plant for tests and experiments on membrane upgrading systems.
